Softening Edges

SOFTENING EDGESPosted by Picasa

Momma fading
sits and stares, drifts into silence
I don't feel good
she says
Forgets to eat
weaker
slower
not shuffling papers
with discovery interest
Is her
spirit
loosening
its hold
on
her body,
considering
its
next
path,
whispering
at
the
veil?

Last time Mom came home from a hospitalization, she seemed so very delicate and detached from this life. I wonder about her a lot.

How do you comfort yourself when you anticipate a loss?

  1. I really like the way you wrote this. I love the picture of her sweet hands. The picture makes me think of how hard they have worked, how much service they have given, and how they gently touch my kids' cheeks when they go to see her.
